The construction of the church is part of a vast urban project, the provosts of the merchants and aldermen have the authorization to acquire all the land and buildings up to the Faubourg Saint Honoré, to allow the construction of the Madeleine and to redesign the surrounding streets up to Place de la Concorde. It is the perfect illustration of the neoclassical architectural style.

Since 1846, the Madeleine has had an organ with 60 stops.
The Church hosted numerous funeral ceremonies of personalities: Frédéric Chopin, Jacques Offenbach, Coco Channel, Dalida, Johnny Halliday and many other great personalities.
